Challenges for infrastructure projects in Senegal
Freeways, bridges, ports, railroad lines... Infrastructure plays a central role in Senegal's socio-economic development. However, these projects are complex, time-consuming, costly and exposed to a multitude of risks that can impact on costs, deadlines, quality and the solidity of the structure (premature ageing, climatic impacts, natural disasters, accidents on construction sites, etc.).

Why call in a risk management expert for the infrastructure sector?
Calling in a risk management expert is a prerequisite for ensuring the safety of users, preventing accidents on construction sites and anticipating the ageing of structures to extend their lifespan. An expert in risk control will detect faults and propose appropriate corrective action, before they become critical. What's more, from a legal and financial point of view, this helps to protect against the risk of non-compliance, and to better control operating and maintenance costs. -
What are the particularities of Senegal's infrastructure sector?
Senegal's infrastructure sector is undergoing rapid transformation, but still faces a number of major challenges. The classified road network covers some 16,500 km, according to FERA (Fonds d'Entretien Routier Autonome), of which almost 6,000 km are asphalted and classified in good or average condition. The country also has 60,000 km of unclassified roads. Major projects have recently been delivered or are underway, notably the Regional Express Train (TER) linking Dakar to Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), as well as port and rail projects. The country also remains marked by significant territorial disparities, with a concentration of modern infrastructure around Dakar to the detriment of certain rural areas. In addition, the quality and maintenance of existing infrastructure is a major challenge, particularly for the road network, a significant proportion of which remains unpaved.
Apave has been present in Senegal for almost 25 years, helping private and public players to make their structures reliable, solid and safe, throughout their life cycle, and thus actively contributing to the development of the country's territories, not only in Senegal, but also elsewhere in the Sahel and more widely in Africa.
