Why carry out non-destructive testing (NDT)?
As you face multiple challenges, we support you in your NDT throughout the life cycle of your installations to :
- Protect the health and safety of your workers and users
- Ensure the integrity and safety of your equipment
- Identify internal and external defects at an early stage, such as cracks, porosity, corrosion, wear or changes in thickness.
- Prevent breakdowns and accidents
- Reduce maintenance costs (e.g., diagnostics without interrupting operations or dismantling parts)
- Extend the service life of your installations
- Ensure compliance with local and international regulatory requirements

What solutions does Apave Cameroon offer?
To meet your requirements in terms of NDT, Apave Cameroon mobilizes different methods that guarantee the safety of your industrial equipment without altering it.
Our conventional NDT includes:
- Penetrant Testing (PT): using a penetrating liquid, it reveals any open discontinuities on the surface.
- Magnetic particle inspection (MT) : locates surface or near-surface defects on ferromagnetic materials.
- Ultrasonic testing (UT) : detects internal defects using high-frequency waves
- X-ray inspection (X-rays or gamma rays) : using X-rays or gamma rays to visualize the interior of parts.
- Visual inspection (VT) : this direct surface examination identifies structural or welding defects.
- Eddy current testing (ET): detects surface defects on conductive materials.
With the support of other Apave subsidiaries, we also offer advanced NDT services, essential for predictive maintenance, safety and compliance (in the energy and oil sectors, in particular):
- Multi-element Ultrasonics (PAUT, Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing): these provide detailed cross-sectional images of the inspected structure. Several specific techniques are derived from this, such as PA-CAT (corrosion testing of pipes at their supports).
- Time Of Flight Diffraction (TOFD) : used to detect and accurately size weld defects.
- Multi-element Eddy Current (ECA) : offers wider coverage and better detection than conventional methods.
- Digital radiography: for corrosion monitoring
- Internal inspection of heat exchanger tubes (IRIS Internal Rotary Inspection System): used to inspect heat exchanger tubes.
- HTHA (High Temperature Hydrogen Attack) inspection : used to detect defects caused by high-temperature hydrogen damage.
- MFL (Magnetic Flux Leakage): used to check the bottom of product storage tanks.
- ACFM inspection: this electromagnetic technique detects open surface cracks in metal welds, without removing the paint.
What are the fields of application for NDT?
Non-destructive testing (NDT) carried out by Apave Cameroon applies to :
- Welds and metallic materials
- Pipes, tubes, pipelines and piping systems
- Bolted assemblies
- Storage tanks and containers
- Boilers and pressure equipment
- Industrial structures and energy installations
In Cameroon, these inspections are used in the gas, energy, manufacturing and infrastructure sectors, such as hotels.
Need controls tailored to your installations?
Your questions about Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)
-
When should Non-Destructive Testing be carried out?
NDT can be used at every key stage in the life cycle of a structure or piece of equipment, depending on its nature:
- during design, manufacture or acceptance of equipment, to guarantee its quality
- At commissioning
- Periodic preventive maintenance to monitor the condition of installations
- Corrective maintenance, following an incident or in anticipation of a failure.
It is advisable to integrate NDT into a regular maintenance plan, to prevent the risks associated with the degradation of pressure equipment or metal structures.
-
In Cameroon, which sectors are concerned by NDCs?
In Cameroon, Non Destructive Testing (NDT) plays a key role in the safety and performance of industrial equipment. They are deployed in a number of strategic sectors, including :
- Gas
- Energy
- Railways
- Manufacturing industries
- Infrastructure, such as hotels
-
What are the advantages of NDT?
Non-destructive testing (NDT ) enables materials and equipment to be examined without altering their integrity, in order to identify internal and external defects.
Accurate, fast and non-invasive, it provides a reliable diagnosis without the need for dismantling or prolonged shutdown of installations.
