Apave Morocco audit:
the various hazards in the workplace and how to manage them
Assessing these hazards, and thus contributing to the safety of a company's employees, is an integral part of the occupational risk assessment process.
Apave Morocco offers a comprehensive range of services to meet your needs in terms of workplace environment measurements.
Need some help?
Noise pollution
Prolonged and/or intense exposure to noise is a major occupational hazard. It has serious and often irreversible consequences on workers' health.
It can cause:
- Tinnitus;
- Fatigue;
- Stress;
- Sleep disorders;
- Loss of alertness;
- An increased risk of psychosocial risks (PSRs) and cardiovascular disease.
Excessive noise can also lead to occupational deafness and increase the number of accidents at work by impairing concentration and the quality of task performance.
Apave Morocco enables you to:
- Identify situations where noise levels exceed safety thresholds;
- Quantify noise exposure at different workstations;
- Determine the actions needed to reduce noise exposure;
- Improve quality of life at work.
Apave Morocco is here to help
Taking noise exposure into account allows risks to be assessed and prevented.
Thanks to the expertise of its specialised teams, Apave can help you identify, measure and control noise pollution, thereby meeting Moroccan regulatory requirements.
Vibration hazards
Exposure to vibrations is classified into two categories, each with distinct consequences:
Hand-arm vibrations (HAV)
These are caused by the use of hand-held or hand-guided tools (jackhammers, sanders, chainsaws, etc.).
Hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) / white finger disease is the most well-known condition. It affects the blood vessels, nerves and joints.
Symptoms include:
- Vascular disorders: episodes of whitening and numbness in the fingers (Raynaud's phenomenon), especially in cold weather;
- Neurological disorders: loss of sensitivity to touch, heat and cold, and loss of manual dexterity;
- Joint damage: pain and stiffness in the wrist and elbow.
Whole-body vibrations (WBV)
These affect drivers of mobile machinery (forklift trucks, tractors, lorries, construction machinery) and operators of vibrating platforms.
Symptoms include:
- Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs): these are a major cause of lower back pain (lumbago) and microtrauma to the spine (herniated discs, sciatica);
- Other effects: Fatigue, balance and sleep disorders.
Nuisances related to temperature and humidity
Apave Morocco provides employers with humidity measurement tools that enable accurate and reliable measurements, regardless of the field of activity – construction, engineering, industrial maintenance, etc.
Pollution related to indoor air quality and pollutants
The air inside buildings is often more polluted than the air outside. Poor indoor air quality (IAQ) causes many health problems. Moroccan regulations therefore impose strict requirements regarding ventilation and pollutant concentrations.
Trusting Apave Maroc means ensuring the control of indoor air quality, but also the diagnosis of the presence of pollutants in water and soil
Each environment has different controls:
- Air: measurement of industrial emissions, indoor air quality, presence of gases and particles, monitoring of atmospheric emissions;
- Water: sampling of surface water, groundwater and wastewater, measurement of discharges, analysis of chemical and biological parameters;
- Soil: sampling of soil or sediments, geotechnical or environmental investigations, detection of soil gases, heavy metals and hydrocarbons, monitoring of contamination or pollution.
The harmful effects of exposure to chemical risks
Since chemical risks have a considerable impact on human health and safety, every employer has a duty to assess and prevent workers' exposure to hazardous chemicals (ACD).
In order to control exposure to chemical risks, Apave Morocco's specialised teams work alongside companies of all sizes and in all sectors of activity to:
- Assess occupational and chemical risks and their impact on employee health;
- *Identify workstations to be monitored;
- Measure operators' exposure to dust and pollutants, etc.
Hazards associated with asbestos risk
According to current Moroccan regulations, employers are legally obliged to protect employees against serious health risks (lung diseases, cancers, etc.).
These risks are caused by the presence of asbestos, which is found almost everywhere in buildings, industrial facilities and certain equipment built before 1997.
Apave Morocco can carry out asbestos diagnosis (identification) and analysis of asbestos exposure.
By reducing chemical risks, noise pollution, lighting and electromagnetic fields, you protect your employees while promoting the sustainability of your business and enhancing its overall performance.
Your questions regarding
workplace environment measurements
-
Noise pollution: what are the employer's legal obligations?
Noisy areas are identified through sound mapping. This allows risk areas to be highlighted, marked and then prioritised for treatment.
-
When should noise assessment be carried out in the workplace?
To ensure the hearing protection of employees, assessments must be carried out regularly, particularly when there are changes in equipment and/or working methods.
-
Who is affected by psychosocial risks?
All sectors of activity are affected, as are all individuals within the company (employees, managers, and executives).
